Florida: HB 697
UPDATE: Thanks to questions and concerns raised by the advocacy community, lawmakers are responding. An amendment has been filed by the bill sponsor to remove the previous bill language and replace it with protections for independent pharmacies.
It is anticipated that the amendment will be accepted at the Committee meeting on Thursday afternoon. Contact to Committee members raising concerns with international reference pricing is no longer necessary.

The Florida House Health and Human Services Committee is considering HB 697, a bill to implement international reference (most favored nation) pricing as an upper payment limit for prescription drugs in the state. The bill has passed two committees already and could be heard by the Health and Human Services Committee this Thursday, February 26 at 3:30PM EST.
International reference pricing brings with it the same challenges as other upper payment limits, but compounds access risks by tying Florida prices to those set by countries with health care systems unlike our own. For example, many peer nations rely on centralized government price controls and government-directed value judgments. These policies lead to trade-offs such as delayed access, restricted formularies, and fewer treatment options – tradeoffs that are unacceptable for American patients.
Please consider weighing in with your organization’s concerns. Direct comments to members of the House Health and Human Services Committee.
