Virginia: SB 274
The Virginia legislature has passed a bill to establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board, and Governor Youngkin needs to hear from you!
Here are some details about SB 274:
Does not include any mechanism to make sure potential savings achieved from by PDAB actions actually decrease out of pocket costs for patients.
Threatens access to treatments through the implementation of an upper payment limit (UPL).
Does not take a holistic look at all cost drivers in the prescription drug pipeline.
Tasks the board to lower drug prices, not improve patient care.
Does not require a health care provider to serve on the Board.
Relegates patient perspectives to a secondary advisory panel with no decision-making authority.
Does not ensure discriminatory metrics like the QALY will not be used at any point in the selection, assessment or UPL-setting processes by the Board.
Does not provide direct accountability for Board decisions to the citizens of Virginia.
